[Chumteav] Meng Keo Pechta sues TV5's Cha Rithy for $22,000

Famous singer Meng Keo Pechta is involved in a lawsuit demanding $22,000 in compensation from Cha Rithy, the manager of the artistic program for TV Channel 5, whom she accused of not abiding by his promise to invite her to sing on his station, but then declined to do so later on. A report from a local newspaper indicated that in her lawsuit sent the Phnom Penh municipal court, [Chumteav] Meng Keo Pechta sued Cha Rithy for $2,000 (for breach of promise) and $20,000 in punitive damage compensation because Cha Rithy’s action made her miss the opportunity to sing in Siem Reap for a reception for a Thai royal [KI-Media: most likely Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn] at the end of 2007. Regarding this lawsuit, the court summoned both sides to arrange for an end to the lawsuit on Monday. During that meeting session, Cha Rithy asked for an end of the lawsuit also in the name of alike artists, and he said that there was no actual agreement either, however, [Chumteav] Meng Keo Pechta refused and she maintained the lawsuit which she claimed that the issue stemmed from a mutual agreement.

Thai princess to visit Cambodia for development projects

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Thai princess Maha Chakry Sarinthorn will pay a visit to Cambodia soon for development projects, a senior Cambodian official said Monday.

The princess will monitor her development projects at the rural areas of Cambodia during her visit, Hor Nam Hong, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, told reporters after signing the single visa agreement with his Thai counterpart Nitya Pibulsonggram.

The princess donated her own property to build a high school in Kompong Cheuteal commune, Prasat Sambo district of Kompong Thom province, school director Tan Bun Horng said by phone, adding that the princess will continue to help the school up to 2010.

She will visit there because she is assisting clean water and agricultural laboratory projects which are under proceeding there, Tan Bun Horng said.

Early this month, the princess sent her dentist team there to provide medical service to the students and local people around the school, he said.

"I hope her visit will bring more development projects for our local people," he added.
