Opposition leader Sam Rainsy, President of the largest opposition party in Cambodia, is currently visiting Europe.
Sam Rainsy talked to RFA at his arrival in France on Saturday, about the goal of his visit.
Sam Rainsy (SR): I am visiting Europe, first of all, in France, to meet with French government leaders, including members of Parliament, representatives of the French government, and also to meet our Cambodian compatriots who are living in France, Paris, Lyon, Marseille. And I will contact our compatriots living in other European countries, such as Norway, Switzerland, Finland. In addition, I will also get in touch with members of the European Parliament.
Mayarith (RFA): What for?
SR: With the goal of strengthening the support from the international community and from Cambodian communities overseas, that is the support for SRP, because the election is very near, therefore, we need support from all sources, and from everywhere.
RFA: Will you come to the US also?
SR: I don’t have a clear plan yet, but, before the election on 27 July 2008, that is, from now to the election date, about 3-4 months before the election, I will surely visit the USA and Canada also.
RFA: How long will you be out of the country for your visit?
SR: I will be out between 10 to 15 days.
