During an election campaign held in Kratie province on 18 and 19 March, opposition leader Sam Rainsy heavily attacked the CPP by accusing this party of corruption and of being the source of the people’s growing poverty. He called on people to stop supporting the CPP and instead provide their support to the SRP instead. In a speech given in a number of districts, which was also broadcasted on RFA on Monday evening, Sam Rainsy said that teachers and civil servants will never see an increase in their salary because of corruption in the government. He also said that corruption is also causing people to become poorer and poorer. He then called on people to switch their support to his party and to vote for SRP. In response to this accusation, Kham Phoeun, the Kratie provincial governor, said that Sam Rainsy’s attack on the CPP for corruption is nothing new, Kham Phoeun said that if the CPP is indeed corrupt, then donor countries would not provide aid to the government anymore.

Syracuse police say medical examiners determined that the trajectory of the wound and other evidence point to Thach Ros shooting himself in the head Sunday night, ending an ordeal that also left his 33-year-old son dead.
Authorities say the stand-off began after the 62-year-old Ros shot and wounded his wife outside their home late Saturday afternoon. She's listed in serious condition at a Syracuse hospital.
Police believe he also shot his 33-year-old son Sophin. His body was found inside the home after a police SWAT team stormed the house Sunday night.
The couple's two other children and the son's wife escaped the gunfire by climbing out a window.
