A SRP sangkat chief from Phnom Penh was summoned by the Phnom Penh municipal court on Thursday. He is accused of injuring 2 persons and destroying the property of people who went to register their names for voting at the commune election. Touch Meng Sreang, Boeng Salang sangkat chief, was sued by a couple on 12 Oct 2006. The couple accused the sangkat chief of destroying their identification documents, and causing them injuries. Touch Menh Sreang told the court that he prevented the couple from registering because he suspected them of being Vietnamese citizens, however, he denied causing any injuries or destroying the couple’s documents. The court questioned Touch Meng Sreang until 11:00 AM, and it decided not to incarcerate him. The legal case will be resolved while the accused remains out of jail.
