SRP provincial officials said that there will several thousands of party members in the province of Svay Rieng who will decide to walk out of the party to join HRP because of their dissatisfaction on the restructuring of the new party provincial leadership which they accuse of lacking transparency and democracy.

Penh Sakhen, a member of the SRP council in Svay Rieng and who used to be a special envoy for the SRP president, told RFA on 24 July: “My group is separating from the SRP because in this province, the provincial leaders do not respect the party rule, for example, the rule say one thing and when it is applied, it’s something else. The party is not clean as it claims.”

At the same time, several thousands of SRP district level council members are also walking out of the party.

Meach Hea, chairman of the SRP council in the district of Romeas Hek, Svay Rieng province, said: “The problem of them leaving is because they are not happy with Ngo Sovann, (the chairman of the) party support committee for organizing the provincial election (who is accused) of not using the (party) rule for the election. He favors individuals and he pushed away old active party members and did not allow them to become candidates.”

Nuon Sim, chairman of the SRP council in the district of Kompong Ro, chimed in by saying: “Until now, the reason I left SRP was because I am unhappy with the actions taken by the party provincial leadership, currently, they are taking actions that are opposite to the democratic process. Therefore, I am not cooperating with them anymore because I consider these actions are opposite to the democratic process, and I decided to leave the SRP to join the HRP.”

Regarding all the issues above, opposition leader Sam Rainsy declined to comment. However, SRP MP Ngo Sovann from Kandal province and chairman of the Svay Rieng party working group explained: “If those who left are actively working by providing human resources to help the SRP to grow, then we should think about it, and we should be concerned. However, those people who accepted party position but do not accomplish their task, their decision to leave the party is a good thing for the party.”

Usually, Cambodian politicians leave one party to join another when they are not happy with something in their former party.

Kem Sokha, HRP president, said that in a democracy, each citizen has the right to choose the political party s/he likes in order to participate in political activities and express their opinions.

It's the way, you pass the river and burn the bridge behind. I doubt any opportunist who seek to a quick way to enrich and empower themselves would be beneficial to any political party. But it's hard to expect any loyal, honest politicians. SPR should cut rotten flesh out to win the election.

it is only CPP tactics to down grade the SRP AND TO SHIFT THE VOTES AWAY FROM SRP TO HRP, SO CPP still be the major party.

It is a simple tactics, even kids can understand.

you see if you don't have HRP,those people will go to cpp.So in this case the democratic parties don't lose votes. It doesn't matter HRP exist or not, CPP will be win but not a landslide.SRP stop play blaming game to somebody ,blame yourself and go back to your campaign strategy. The game still on.

Many times the people who left the party are always considered rotten flesh or betrayal. It's never ended. SO, your body will but cut again and again until it's too late to know that you have only the poor bone. Look at Pol Pot leadership and the consequences.

It sounds very bad to our Cambodian citizen. You go to HRP or still in SRP is the same. CPP is very happy to hear the news. A group or person who is so-called DEMOCRACY, they should understand the current situation. Both parties must (not should) work together as one.

Democrate party combine together to fight communist party is a good way. If you, SRP and HRP, still walk in present way you will be in a hot water in 2008. I promise!

Please be together.
