KI-Media note: Unless Keo Remy defected back to SRP without our knowledge, the Rasmei Kampuchea reporter who wrote this article must be really behind the news or he is mixed up with another SRP MP. He keeps on talking about Keo Remy still being an opposition SRP MP. In fact, Keo Remy is no longer a member of SRP since his defection to join Kem Sokha’s party. In any case, the translation below tries to remain faithful to the original article.

Phnom Penh SRP MP Keo Remy sent a request on 06 August 2007 to Hor Nam Hong, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, through Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly, requesting his intervention with the Vietnamese authority to return back to Cambodia Monk Tim Sakhorn, the former abbot of the Phnom Den North pagoda, located in Phnom Den commune, Kirivong district, Takeo province.

The content of Keo Remy’s letter indicated that Monk Tim Sakhorn who had lived in Cambodia, as a Cambodian citizen based on his past and his condition to fulfill the role as abbot of a Cambodian pagoda, furthermore, he was arrested by the Vietnamese authority for illegal border crossing. The letter also indicated that, according to Article 33 of the Cambodian Constitution, Monk Tim Sakhorn has the rights to receive the protection from the Cambodian government. Furthermore, in the case of illegal border crossing by Monk Tim Sakhorn (into Vietnam) is quite different from the other cases of Cambodian workers crossing the border illegally to enter Thailand. In the second type of cases, the Royal Government of Cambodia used to help resolve the workers’ cases with the Thai government in order to have these workers who were arrested by Thailand be sent back home.

Former Abbot Tim Sakhorn disappeared since 30 June 2007, after he was defrocked by force and with great haste stemming from an order issued by Tep Vong, the supreme patriarch, resulting from a request made by Non Nget, a Buddhist patriarch, who accused Monk Tim Sakhorn of violating Buddhist monk rules.

The Vietnamese Prek Russei (Can Tho) radio broadcasted on 02 August 2007 that former Abbot Tim Sakhorn was arrested by the Vietnamese authority and jailed in Vietnam. The Vietnamese authority accused Monk Tim Sakhorn of illegal border crossing and undermining the policy of solidarity between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Legally, Keo Remy is still an SRP MP. The NA has yet to formally remove and replace him.

I don't understand why the hell of all Khmer who hate yuon so much and than fight each other. Why don't they just compromise and join in to one party and win the election then push the CPP which is under Hun Sen control to the curb. I think this maybe the only way to get our country back.Yuon are very happy when they see Khmer bark at each other. Do thing like Khmer Krom do, they seem to understand each other and fight this pests. I think if
Khmer in the kingdom of Kampuchea
can do that, Kampuchea Krom and
Kampuchea may be free of yuon.
