SRP gets support from French ruling party (1)

France 's ruling party, L'Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP), sent a high-ranking representative to attend the Sam Rainsy Party congress held on September 8-9, 2007 . Thierry Mariani, a prominent French National Assembly member and head of the UMP Department of Foreign Affairs addressed the SRP congress and greeted SRP members on behalf of French President Nicolas Sarkozi. In a September 12 letter to Sam Rainsy, Thierry Mariani assured the Cambodian opposition leader that UMP will support the SRP's legitimate demands.
See official letter in French here.

CPP applies for International Socialist membership (2)

With the support of Vietnam , the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has recently resubmitted its application to be a member of International Socialist (IS). Over the past fifteen years, the CPP had continuously applied for IS membership but had been continuously rejected because of its poor democratic credentials and appalling human rights records. Both the former communist CPP and its coalition government partner, the royalist Funcinpec, are currently members of Centrist Democrat International, previously known as Christian Democrat International (CDI). The opposition Sam Rainsy Party is member of Liberal International (LI).

Same type of corruption at ECCC and CCHR (2)

On September 25, 2007 , The Cambodia Daily published an article titled "Report Finds Flaws in ECCC Administration" saying that an independent audit has shown evidence of corruption at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal (whose official name is the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia). There are several witnesses and victims testifying that Cambodian staffers have to "give kickbacks in exchange for their jobs." An employee specified that he was required to make monthly payments, in cash, shortly after his paycheck was deposited in his bank account each month. No records were kept of the transactions so that any external investigator "cannot get evidence." Also on September 25, The Asian Wall Street Journal called the mismanagement of the ECCC funds a "scandal". Later on the same day, the ECCC issued a statement committing itself to put things right, especially to reform the recruitment process and to stop the practice of "soliciting payments" from employees.

According to 16 former employees of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR), the same practice of "soliciting payments" prevailed at this organization when Kem Sokha was its President, with all transactions (salaries, allowances and kickbacks) being made in cash. The former CCHR employees have formed a Truth Committee to denounce Kem Sokha's corruption under the banner of a human rights organization. In a series of detailed reports, the Truth Committee has exposed several tricks to rob Cambodian employees and to cheat foreign donors. The most recent documents produced by the Truth Committee can be viewed both in Khmer (here) and in English (here). There are also reports about nepotism and other subtle forms of corruption at the CCHR here.

Hun Sen holds Kem Sokha hostage (2)

Independent observers have noticed that since Kem Sokha formed a new political party called the Human Rights Party (HRP) in July 2007, he has refrained from attacking the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and the Government of Prime Minister Hun Sen. This may be the result of a deal between Hun Sen and Kim Sokha: Hun Sen has reportedly promised to protect Kem Sokha from lawsuits that the 16 former employees of the CCHR and their Truth Committee have filed against the former CCHR President for corruption, embezzlement and breach of trust (see news above: "Same type of corruption at ECCC and CCHR"). In return, Kem Sokha has promised not to attack Hun Sen but to concentrate his attacks instead on parliamentary opposition leader Sam Rainsy whom Hun Sen fears most.

The case of Prince Norodom Ranariddh is still in everybody's mind: Following a lawsuit for breach of trust filed against him by his former colleagues at FUNCINPEC, Prince Ranariddh was sentenced in March 2007 to 18 months in prison by the CPP-controlled Court. Because of the judicial precedent set by Prince Ranariddh's case and the obvious corruption at the CCHR, Hun Sen is able to hold Kem Sokha hostage, to blackmail him and to tightly control the HRP.

Foreign brokerage firms will be allowed to operate in Cambodia (1)

On September 12, 2007 , the National Assembly passed a law that lays the ground for the creation of a Stock Exchange in Cambodia . Many serious problems have to be solved before a real Bourse can be set up in this country (KI, 31 January 2007: "No stock market in Cambodia in a foreseeable future"). During the parliamentary debate, opposition leader and former Finance Minister Sam Rainsy, who had been a security analyst and a portfolio manager in Europe for twenty years, stressed that the Government will have to be strict to ensure that listed companies release accurate information to prevent the public from being cheated. He obtained the assurance from the Government that foreign brokerage firms will be allowed to do business in Cambodia in order to help our future Stock Exchange meet international standards in due course.

There's nothing new about the bribery in the ECCC (KRT). Even teachers in Cambodia use government local to teach extra time and ask money from students.. And then, they said that they are not paid enough.
About the Sam Rainsy financial model develop by Sam Rainsy, it's just odd. These equations are from well known mathematician. With these equations and more, those mathematicians got their PhD or Master. How come that Sam Rainsy had developed it? The title should said that Sam Rainsy had use these model for his financial analysis's jobs. I am not sure that the uses of this financial model would help for stock evaluation to buy a stock. The DR is used for the project evaluation (financial or money investment)... And it's had 5 or 6 more ways to make a financial project evaluation.

I think they meant he summarized or developed the theory and created the model from the book. Therefore, I doubt that there is the Khmer version of the book.
