The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) issued a statement reacting against Brad Adams, the executive director of Human Rights Watch Asia who criticized the living condition of prisoners jailed in government institutions, of using rude words when he compared the living conditions of prisoners in Cambodian jail to be similar to the living conditions of dogs. The statement said that Brad Adam’s words are a severe scorn on prisoners and convicts, and that he did not use a language worthy of a human rights activist. The MoI statement considers Brad Adams view as that of a bias and revengeful person.

westerners have a mindset of looking down at cambodians as an inferior race, almost subhuman. they do not hesitate to use words they would not use against each other. i just hope khmer people are beginning to understand how these people think of us and stop seeing them as gods.

You, too, realized that Khmer officials are always in denial no matter what. The officials never take any criticism likely, when someone is stepping on their toes.
A Khmer citizen don't need to be in Jail to experience cruelty from the officials. Open your eyes and your sound mind, for instance the FORCED EVICTION. Isn't the CPP treated those people like a herd of cattle! Worse like a Dogs! The flood victims: where is the head of Red Cross -- Bunrany Hun Sen? There are numberous issues. You have to think for yourself.

Folks, this is just one of the many cases that the retarded westerner is short sited.
In every society, there are 4 class of people ranked as the following: rich, middle class, poor, and Prisoner (often this class is hidden because of small population).
Now if you were to make the living condition of the prisoner better the the poor, then, you will created chaos in our country. What happens is you'll invited our poor to seek a better living condition by committing crime. Perhaps, it is not so bad if we only have a hand full of poor people here, but that is not the case, 90% of our population is poor. And if just 1% of the poor seek crime as a mean to improve their living condition, we will be out of business, not to mention the victim of the crime. Do you know what I am talking about?
We can't provide to cambodians people enough food to live (outside the prison). Meaning most of the things they ate are not good for their health. If you go to prison in Cambodia,it's worse, your expectation is bad health in the future. The point of no return to rehabilitate. We can't compare to federal prison in Canada. A chance to study bachelor etc, and everything else, except that you're in a prison. Don't bother Khieu Sopheak, since he has lost his first wife (suicide because of him), he has lost all reasons. Cambodia is Cambodia, leaders kill monks and literated people to have prosperity. Seems that most the cambodians like that. Why We bother ourself? Because We want them free from Hun Sen (illierated) and Yuons. We are pity them. That's why we are shouting and crying from oversea.

Well, our country was set back about 60 years or so by the Vietnam war that included Vietnam and Laos. If you compare the tree country. there is not much difference in the recovery, give or take 30% or so.
It is unfair to compare to Thailand because they have not being effected by war. And if you compare our three brother to Burma, perhaps you can see that we have a niche over them.

Personally, I don't even agree with our government to make any effort to keep prisoner alive. I congratulate you for sharing your opinion regarding the Khmer high ranking officials. It is so true. To me, I dont have any respect for any of them. The title that they get they use it to blunder Cambodia of her natural resources and exploit the poor people.

There is no blame here. The US has no business to destroy our region. Not true, the reason the North attack the South is because the US was there blocking their vote.
