For the Cambodian government, 27 July is a humongous and victorious historical day for Cambodia which finally has a national airline that can show that Cambodia was indeed a former empire (sic!).
If one were to hear Cambodia Angkor Air, this name is music to the ears because the country is very famous for its Angkor temple, and wherever one turns, one surely hears the word “Angkor.” It is true that “Angkor” is Cambodia’s pride and it is an unavoidable fact. Nevertheless, can Cambodia Angkor Air actually represent our national airline pride?
The history of the Cambodia Angkor Air shows that it is half owned by Cambodia and half owned by Cambodia’s tens-of-thousand-years-old brother: Vietnam. However, right from the start, Cambodia Angkor Air did not show its aspiration to be Cambodia’s pride to the more than 14 million Cambodians at all.
It is in fact very regrettable and very shameful that, currently, Cambodia does not have the ability to form its own 100% national airline where the Cambodian flag adorned with Angkor Wat can be displayed.
When one tries to reach the Cambodia Angkor Air website (www.cambodiaangkorair.com), no information in Cambodian can be found. Quite to the contrary, the Vietnamese language is quite prominent, from airline reservation to airline flight routes etc… Could it be that Cambodia Angkor Air is merely a sexual toy of Vietnam Airlines? Is this what Cambodia Angkor Air pride amounts to?
We praise and encourage the Cambodian government that puts effort to bring back the national airline, but in the case of Cambodia Angkor Air, our pride on this so-called national airline is still doubtful.
We wish Cambodia Angkor Air a good operation and that it may become popular with Cambodians and foreigners alike who will be using this airline for their travel needs!

Let's be fair here. The government of Prime Minister Hun Sen created this airline with 51% of share belonging to Cambodia and 49% of share belonging to Vietnam.
Air Cambodge died long time ago and Air Cambodge also had shares owned by Malasian company. It seems that nobody wants to join with the government to create the Cambodian National Airline so Vietnam came along and wanted to do joint business with the Cambodian government. I don't see anything wrong here as long as the company makes money and there is transparency in the busines transactions.
Vietnam and Thailand are our neighbours and they are here to stay whether we like it or not so we had better learn to deal with them and not against them because we are too small, too poor, too divided and too wounded physically, mentally and financially to even take on one of them for a short time.

Even if the website is in Khmer, there is no difference because this so-called Cambodia Angkor Air is controled by Viet any way, just look at the board of directors. They are all Vietnamese.
We all know that Vietnamization of Cambodia is taking place; however, we don't know how to stop it because there are always Khmers who are willing to serve the Thais or the Vietnamese just for their own personal gains.
In the 60s, Cambodia was at peace and we had different Khmer groups working with foreigners on the east and the west sides of the country to tople the government of Norodom Sihanouk, which was not a perfect government, but much better than those that have followed.
We seem to be the only race in the whole world who jump at the idea of serving our neighbours to destroy our own country.

We buy electric from Youn cuz if we can't get billions bucks to build our own yet during this time and if we spend that billions to buys power from Vietnam it'll last years and years!!but China helps to build Water Fall Electric system at Komchay Mountain that could serve half of the country! it should be ready in 2010!!

but we have Law that says!! every investment must a joint with Cambodian Local Company or Government!

Thai Airway! before Thai airway knows nothing about Air industry So they need investment! with a joint !so in the beginning everything controled by foriegners!!! when Thai was strong enough about Air industry they took all the control now!!
in Cambodia for Example Milicom(Mobitel) was joint between Millicom and Local Company ROyal Group and now we're strong enough(knows how run telecom by our own) 100% run by Cambodian company now!!! soon or later we will show our ability to invest Telecom in other poor nation then us!!
of course cambodia can understand the concept of partnering with the experienced and affluent and savvy partner, particular partners like japan, the USA, the EU, England, Australia, new zealand, korea, etc... but why youn? i don't get it! it's like the blind is leading the blind! think about it, cambodia. khmer people don't want youn as partner, you know! wake up already! if we smart we look to japan, korea, the USA, the EU like france, germany, england, italy, etc... but not youn or not even siem either for that matter! learn from the world. everyone has to start somewhere somehow, you know; that's the fact of life! get use to it! god bless cambodia.

VietNamNet - Viettel, the country’s second-largest telecommunications company, has become the first Vietnamese telecom provider to operate overseas after it received a license to offer its services in Cambodia.
The military-owed telco has a ten-year license to establish the Viettel Cambodia Pte Company, and 100% of its US $98,000 investment capital will come from Vietnam.
Viettel will initially conduct a feasibility study of international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and mobile phone services on the Cambodia market before establishing its network and installing equipment.
A Viettel official said this was the first step in its expansion plans for the Indochina region.
“We will study the Cambodian market to decide which service to offer first. The decision will be made in October and we will register another license to establish a company in Laos later this year,” the official said.
Cambodia has population of about 13.4 million people and last year had a teledensity of 3.6 lines per 100 people, of whom 60% were mobile subscribers.
Viettel earned VND 3.1 trillion (US $199.1 million) in revenue last year, which was a 126% year-on-year increase on 2005. It signed up 1.7 million new telephone subscribers last year, raising its total number of subscribers to two million.
The country’s largest telecom operator, Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group, will also expand into overseas markets through the regional holding alliance ASEAN Telecom Holding/ACASIA. The government has recently given its in-principle agreement to VNPT’s involvement in the alliance.
Under the alliance, the VNPT subsidiary Vietnam Data Communications Company (VDC) will act as the local partner for the alliance. It has signed a technical agreement to install a data transmission node in Vietnam that complies with regional standards.

How many times we heard international tourists fly to Bangkok and take bus tour to Angkor Wat and all provided by Thai services. And now international tourists are flying to Vietnam and then Viet tour operators will provide services to take them to Angkor Wat. I call this approach as "Viets eat meat while Khmer eat bones!!!" . Thanks to the inferior leadership of the Hun Sen regime.
As a Khmer person I would welcome international investment, but not from the Viets nor the Thais. These two neighbours cannot be trusted and the proof is in history books.

For example Airline !! if british airline or other airlines in eruope or even japan or Korean invest in Airway !! do you think the price that they set would be affortable for Cambodian ? Do you think they would waste their time to invest in the country which get only 2.5 million air passengers per year ?
we already have some Europe or gaint asia company invested in Cambodia but it's just two small and They will invest if the Market gets much bigger then this, Economic Cisis solved!
I work in Mobile Phone company for Telecom in Cambodia I can guarantee you that Veitel is just a new company from Vietnam with very low price for calling!!! do you think other companys like Mobitel(012) covers 60%, Mfone(011) 20%, Hello(10%) and other 10% for the rest of others operators like Veitel,Starcell,Excell,Catcom,Smart MObile!! would let Vietel gets all the customers ? OH I don't think so!
about the Tourists we use Thailand as gateway before but now Vietnam! do you know why ? because we got only 2 millions per years!! Thialand got almost 14 millions per year and Vietnam got 11 millions per year !! for 2 million almost half of them didn't come by plane! so only more 1 million that came by plane!!
so we can't get as a gateway for a direct flight from like Europe or US or Australia or even some other far countrys in Asia! why ? because the airway company won't get enough passenger for their plane!! that's why thailand became our Air Geteway but Thialand is being retarded and Youn gets this change !!! so every nations that would like to fly to cambodia will be in one plane so it will be enough passenger !!
It is sad to see you described how bad Cambodia's progress is today under Hun Sen regime - JUST A MEDIOCRE NATION in the region. Cambodia is still not good at anything as you described to us. Cambodia is still a beggar and foreign-dependent nation. Hun Sen has ruled Cambodia since 1985, and the nation is still under-developed. It is time for a leadership change you think???Let someone is more capable and intellectually-inclined than Hun Sen to lead the nation. Vietnam has changed their leaders.
