The US ambassador to Cambodia said that all trials by the court should be conducted with transparency and fairness.

Mrs. Carol Rodley, the US ambassador to Cambodia, said that she is following closely all court hearings and trials, whether they involve politicians or ordinary citizens.

Mrs. Rodley did not comment on the Svay Rieng court decision handed down to Mr. Sam Rainsy, but she simply said that all court hearings should be conducted with transparency and fairness.

Through a translator, she said: “We are closely following this trial, and it’s not just trials involving politicians and VIPs, but also on various other trials as well. All trials should be conducted with transparency and fairness.”

Mrs. Rodley made this declaration one day after the Svay Rieng provincial court sentenced opposition leader Sam Rainsy to 2-year jail term.

On 27 January 2010, opposition leader Sam Rainsy was sentenced in absentia by the Svay Rieng provincial court to 2-year of jail term, and he was also fined with several million of riels after he was accused of destruction of public properties and incitation of racial discrimination. The sentencing was issued after Sam Rainsy and a number of villagers from Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province, uprooted stakes for border post no. 185 in October 2009.

Mrs. Rodley did not think that Mr. Sam Rainsy’s case was political, but she indicated that, if this case reaches the Appeal court, and the decision by Appeal court could be fair and transparent, then it would be a good sign.

Mrs. Carol Rodley said: “I think that if this case reaches the Appeal court, and if the Appeal court could be transparent and fair [then it would be a good sign].”

Mr. Sam Rainsy considered the 2-year jail sentence on him, and the 1-year jail sentence handed down to 2 other villagers are not what matter, but the problem is centered on the Cambodian authority giving away Cambodian territories to foreigners, and the latter is the main problem.

That is right, Madame Ambassador. Please tell those ruling government to stop oppressing Mr. Sam Rainsy and the SRP.

If Carol Rodley follows closely all court hearing and trials and why does not she see or hear about Mr. Sam Rainsy's case?
Why is she not gobsmacked by? Oh I see now, the US don't want to hurt Communist Vietnam who just abandonned them to sleep with China.

Mrs Rodley will be a one term Ambassador.

Without the U.S. involvement in the Cambodian affair the democracy in this country will evaporate. The Hun Sen regime is past due to be uprooted.

In a sense it is almost similar to the KR/Pol Pot regime when fear reigns and dictatorship grips like a pair of pliers. This is not a freedom the Khmer longs for. Death to evil doers. God bless the Khmer.

2;16pm. How many Khmers do you want GOD to Bless?

2;16pm.
And who stops the US from being involved in Cambodia's democracy?
Preaching democracy to others but the US itself is about to kill the democracy in its own country. If the Tea Party was not created, the socialism system will take over the US already. TG Scott Brown defeated the evil socialism. If the socialists don't believe in freedom, free market, free enterprize, and small government and why do they think they are for democracy? Liar!!!

U.S is the father of Democracy; however, the U.S falls to stop or intervene with the CPP's regime of abuses regarding human rights, freedom of expression, forced eviction, and so on. Will the U.S surely ignore whatever happens to Cambodia since the past until presently, and the future to come? The eagle probably has no more power to fly and lost the ability to catch its preys.

democracy is under pressure in the US

US governments are hypocritical, they talk democracy and cynically compromise their relationships with other countries to build and maintain their business power

the same cynical business/military attitude harms their own people

There always is COLD WAR,
before 1979, China against USA,
before 1989, China with USA against USSR, now China against USA, USA sells weapons to Taiwan per example.

Cambodia needs fair and balanced treatment from both US and China.

Any idea of making Cambodia a vassal state of any her neighbors is a political and moral mistake as this will lead to chaos and the suffering of all people in this geo-political hot spot where the West loves to call "Indo-China"

You don't refer to Canada, US, and Mexico as one entity; so there is no such thing as Indo-China unless you are the residual of the colonial era who likes to simplify things out of your own disrespect and disregard of other people's culture and independence.

Yeahh the US is the father of the democracy and is well wisher to the freedom and independent of all, but the US make no effort to help weak nations like Cambodia knowing Cambodia is being invading by the Vietnamese.
Who signaled French not to give back the land of Kampuchea Krom to Cambodia? It was the US who did it.

"Mrs. Rodley did not think that Mr. Sam Rainsy’s case was political, but she indicated that, if this case reaches the Appeal court, and the decision by Appeal court could be fair and transparent, then it would be a good sign."

= What do you mean the court "could be fair and transparent"? Tell me how is it that AH HUN SEN court being fair and transparent to any Cambodian people? Two innocence Cambodian farmers are in jail already for protesting the Vietcong illegal border encroachment!

So Mr. Rodley want Cambodian people to trust AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave court??? I am confused!

Anonymous said...

"Mrs. Rodley did not think that Mr. Sam Rainsy’s case was political."

Oh? Mr Sam Rainsy's case is not a political? ahahhahahhahahha
In fact Mr. Sam Rainsy is pure political case because AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave court persecute Sam Rainsy without taking all the evidences into consideration! This is a clear flagrant violation of Cambodian sovereignty by the Vietcong government according to international map!

If Mrs. Rodley want to support AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave and the Vietcong government and it is better that she kept all these comments to herself and please refrain from making nonsense comments because it will only encourage the Vietcong naked aggression on Cambodia!

Vietcong naked aggression will not be rewarded!

From 27th January 2010 onward, Xam Rainxy is a convicted criminal. So, his self name party also becomes a Criminal Party.

It's so obvious for criminal, they have never admitted their crime but at the same time, they always try to say or show something to cover up their crime and get public sympathy but no matter what they crying out, no one is going to believe or take criminal's word seriously.

As a convicted criminal, Xam RainXy has no right to demand anything at all let alone put any condition to the government. There are two options for Xam Rainxy to face with. Either comes to serve jail time (2 years) in Cambodia or stays as a coward and shame in France.

Since Xam Rainxy has uprooting border markings, he is often said that he will take this border's issue to International Court, but so far, there is no International Court. Right now, through interview with Radio Free Asia, he is shameless mentioned about International Court again. When he will complaint to International Court?? As I am aware, International Court in Xam Rainxy's view could be in Beijing and the judge is former King Sihanouk.

America and her Ambassador are weakling compare to China and Vietnam. Your politic are not doing anything to get rid of dictatorship and murdurer leader like Hun Sen and many KR officials are still in power and destroying Cambodia a tasteless legacy you left after Vietnam War.

Wake up USA dont walk behind the chinese and Vietnamese like you did in the last 30 years.

Khmer can not operate without our Viet's help. Viet and Khmer have had a very good relationship with each other ever since its existence Until the white colonial like the france, the Pro USA, Pro USSR or the Pro Chin. So, if you look at the blood line half of the khmer are now Vietkhmer, Thaikhmer, Chinkhmer. We have had a vast integration of Indochinese in our bloodline. So, my point is Khmer need viet and viet need khmer to help each other out in term of national security. At this stage, we have to follow the flow not against the flow. we have nothing to lose when we work together as a team but we will gain more instead. K. wisdom

11:56AM you make it too simple with your analogy. Can I remind you that only KHMER HUN SEN and CPP need Vietnam not the Khmer Mchas Srok because we born to be free and not to follow like you all who sold everything especially your dignity, spirit most of all your ancestor's heritages. Shame and shame on you who dare to use the word wisdom to sign your name because such wisdom only apply to POOj KAGNJEAH KEH.

Hun Sen Government never wanted to jail Sam Rainsy or othe MP! Why they need to do thos thing then?

If Mrs Embassador can look back to Vietname war and you put it in Hun sen version! It's been called " HIT AND RUN TACTIC" .

they hit as hard but without commited to get caught, responsible but they do achive a great phychological damage to the one they call enemy!

In case of Cambodia now a day! the just want to suppress Cambodia to stand for their right and democracy!

The strong massage is you do thing CPP do not like you go to jail! if any body ( Iternational Community ) help you you are already a wef day in jail boys!

The Hun Sen new kind of communist, dictatorship goverment will go along way with this guarila tactic!

Cambodian will suffereng forever , Mrs Ambassador!!!

I HOPE LIGHTNING WOULD STRIKE HUN SEN AND TUGS JUST LIKE WHAT IT DID TO HOK LANDY!!!!!!

The reality is that Sam Rainsy is needed to be the legitimate "oppositon" party. He may never become PM, but his role is that of providing the opposition party needed by the government to show that it's a two party (or more)system. At some point he will be pardoned so he can return and fulfill his role.
