Mr. Prum Chea and Mrs. Meas Srey, who were sentenced in the uprooting of border posts in Svay Rieng, are planned to be transferred from the Svay Rieng jail to the Prey Sar prison in Phnom Penh next month.
Nget Sarath, the prosecutor for the Appeal Court, told reporters on Monday that 41-year-old Prum Chea and 39-year-old Meas Srey, who are currently being detained in the Svay Rieng jail, will be transferred to the Prey Sar prison in Phnom Penh, prior to the hearing of their appeal which will be held next month.
Nget Sarath said that the Appeal Court already issued the court order to bring the pair in for their court appeal hearing against the Svay Rieng court verdict. The appeal hearing will be held on 09 August, and it will also include the case of opposition leader Sam Rainsy who is currently living in self-exile overseas.
The appeal hearing, which will be held on 09 August, comes after the Appeal Court had to cancel its hearing on 06 July due to the absence of Prum Chea and Meas Srey.
Mr. Prum Chea and Mrs. Meas Srey are farmers from Koh Kban Kandal village, located in Samrong commune, Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province. They were sentence to 1-year of jail term each during a court hearing held on 27 January 2010. They were accused of destroying public properties just for uprooting border stakes for post no. 185. On that same day, opposition leader Sam Rainsy was also sentenced to 2-year of jail term for the same case.
Up to now, the Cambodia-Viet border is a fighting topic between the opposition party and the government which people perceive as being under the order of Hanoi. This case has turned into an important topic for Cambodians because it involves the future of their country which is facing the constant assaults from Viet communities – both Viet immigrants and Viet merchants – on Cambodian political and commercial infrastructures.
The transfer of Prum Chea and Meas Srey – who are known as prisoners of conscience – is criiticized by civil society officials as being another form of torture against them because now they are separated even further away from their relatives who live in Svay Rieng province.

Lok Prum chea and Neak Srey Meas Srey are khmer heroes. They will be hail as true Khmer heroes when they get out from jail. It seems like Khmer has no leader nor king who can protect them while their lands were stolen by Viet. They tried to protect their own land and subsequently they were jailed by their own authority. I feel very sorry for all Cambodian people who live under Kangaroo Court and dictatorship leader hun sen.
Where is the coward Sam Rainsy. He is the one who should go to jail, not these two people. But he is too coward and ran to France, leaving the poor villagers to go to jail in his place.
By jailing these two Khmer heroes, Hun Sen shows us that he really a thief and his judges are really monkey. Want or not Cambodia is a REPUBLIC OF BANANA, no justice, no law, of course Cambodia is run by a band of monkey with fake PhD..
