With the gloomy sky, the rainy and damp weather outside, I had a few minutes left before being on the move again. As I was reading through the comments to the post I sent to KI-Media, a reader was mentioning about his/her memories of the beautiful songs of Ms. Mao Saret. Since I happened to have some of these songs, I would like to share them with all the readers below, along with a few other gems from this talented singer.

Regarding the song "Than Suor Kirirom", I asked KI-Media to post a lo-res version of it sometime back [click here to read this post].
Another reader was wondering if I may have my timeline all mixed up as I described life in Cambodia in my childhood, somewhere circa the 60s . With age, I am lucky if I still remember what I did yesterday, let alone how life was more than 40 years ago. Therefore, I am grateful to this reader for correcting me on this issue.

Oudor Mean Chey by Mao Sareth is a very beautiful song that I love so much. Listening to it brings me back to the time of joyful and peaceful Cambodia under Prince Sihanouk's Sangkum Reastr Niyum.
Mirina and Mira Meas Bang by our best singer Sin Si Samouth are also beautiful,comforting and refreshing to the soul and mind after a long day of work.

Please our elder Koun Khmers, please share your knowledge of Khmers' ideas, funds, and everything of your times so our Koun Khmer younger generation have a better understand of your generation and what Cambodia mean to you!
This is indeed a beganing to build the bridge of our Khmer inter-generational understanding of each others and our belove motherland. When we began to care, to share, to give, and to understand the essent of what it is being Khmer. We are on our way to understand our capability to help rebuild our country!

Thank you so much for sharing the songs that I long to hear for many years since I left our home land 31 years ago.
They will help my nostalgia and healing process from my horrendous experiences during KR regime. It's too good to be true that I open the site and see my wishes is granted.

I could not agree more with your initiative. This is a very good way to bridge our generation gap and promoting our culture in the 60, 70 before the year zero.
I remember my second daughter took her whole week salary to purchase the B GEES, ONE NIGHT ONLY concert's tickects to surprise us on our 23 years anniversary in 1999. We were taken to that years of our youth and it was magical moment. She secured us with very good seat, just a stone throw away from Olivia Newton-John and other well known artists. Then my first daughter presented me the ONE NIGHT ONLY DVD and the Bibliography book of the B GEES, for my birthday. The momentum was our daughters sacrifice their meagre earning during their junior year for our love of music and the artists. The sentiment came through our casual conversation about our childhood and so on. It started when we sang along Robin Gibbs'famous "I started a joke " and the children asked us 'oh, mum and dad know the B GEES, Carpenter, Brad, Eagle, Santana, Cher... I told them I began to be the B GEES fan when I was 7 years old along with my eldest brother who played guitar with Hang Samley and Hang Samlot, and they were interested to listen to our bits and pieces childhood stories. I told them about Lok Chum kem's Twist, Lok Sin Sisamouth's Jazz songs... And it was great fun when we had our regular family get together at the end of the week, when they all came to our room. The girls did massage for mum and dad, and the younger boys especially the younger one came to rest his head at my chest. They all teased him that he wanted to be fed (he was ten) and so he pretended to be a baby. Well they have grown up and live their lives and are too busy to spend that quality time like what we used to do, it's kind of depressed me though. But I hope I could bring this momentum back through the new initiative with Neaty Kaun Khmer soon.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful story. Just like I said earlier, age is just the number. No matter at what age we are all have the feeling of youngness still with all of us.
I am the one who start to suggest the ki Media to start to discuss of what are the issues that are matter to our motherland.
I definately thanks to Kaun Khmer that start to pick up under his/her responsibily and his/her time of writing with scholarly touch to the subject with reference, in case of our bloggers want to read more. I am definately believe that you can contribute of your knowledge to our "Neatee Koun Khmer" - I just want to inform you that - whatever you would like to write, please put reference and site sources as Koun Khmer had done. In this case we have a consistant to our scholartic contribute to share with all of our Koun Khmer.
In addition, another request is that no name, title (Mr., Ms., or Dr. etc), and affiliation be disclosed. The reason is that I would like all Koun Khmers to feel save without any pre-conception of their standing within the same space to share. Without any title or affiliation as an external environment to effect our discussion on the issues. I want to allow each any everyone of Koun Khmer to dick deep into their heart and soul of what it is being Koun Khmer with happy memories, isssues,etc. And you are indeed one of the true Koun khmer that is like to care, to share and give your time to write to share with our younger generation.

It is fine, I was just curious if people were referring to Dr Peang Meth. I am thankful that he brought back the nostalgia of the old golden days of Cambodia, even though I was late to connect with the era and experience. I love both the old and the new generations. These cultural and artistic memories do give a better light and reason to be proud of the place of my birth and its people. Thanks.

I didn't know what was your intention to ask for P - LB identification.
Protect one identity is very important. In addition, I want to protect all Koun Khmers' identity that come to share in this space. I really want them to share their essent of Khmer's identity, ideas, value, believe, etc, as they know it without fear of anybody threaten them of their voices.
Our Khmer elders have a wealth of knowldge of our Koun Khmer Nation...I want them to build the bridge of their knowledge with the younger Khmer generation. Some Khmers' older generation tend to dismiss that we young do not want to know or care what had happen to them or what they know. And for me, as one of Koun Khmers younger generation, I am really appreciate Khmer elder such as Dr. Peang-Meth. He has a wealth of knowledge, and very fluence in hist scholartic field. I believe that it would be a lost to all Koun Khmers if we younger generation not acknowledge that their knowledges are important to us. Thus, my goal is to build the bridge of knowledge of our understanding between Koun Khmers older generation and Koun Khmers younger generation in order to increase our understand of our nation and hope that we khmer will not repeat the history such as the killing field..
So 12:24 - have you meet Dr. Peang-Meth or you know Dr. Peang-Meth personally? Sharing your knowledge is highly appreciated.

No, I have never met Dr. Peang-Meth. However, I have been reading his posts on KI and lately, been fascinated with his path that he took to where he is now. I think, his story should be in a book...
Yes, as Ki media regular reader to stay connect to Cambodian's issues, I enjoy reading Dr. Peang-Meth columns as well. Every time I read his writing the more I realize that there is a true Koun Khmer scholar (not import from vietname)has been tirelessly put out his articles week after week, after week. In addition, he stood with his believe and his ideas that some of the hast comment from reader on his articles. One that enjoy reading his column - just don't want to leave any good comment or willing to acknowledge that his columns have possitive impact on them.
So 12:01 am - if you want to know what constitute to be Koun Khmer that dedicate his life for his nation...Dr. Peang-Meth is one of the best example to be comment...
Of course there are some other Khmer scholars from his generation as well, but somehow they are not able to possess the Koun Khmers' spirit of what it mean to be Koun Khmers scholars and their services to their nation and motherland....they just stood by on the side line....
as we all grow older, we are actually still young at heart, you know. please be happy to be alive and healthy. god bless all.
cambodia should encourage more talented people to come out into making cambodia a fun and enjoyable country for all to visit, live, work, etc. cambodia should create more educated people, and i hope to see more singers and musicians and artists, actors, etc like in the 1960s and early 1970s in cambodia. there are a lot of smart, talented khmer people in cambodia and abroad, please have pride in your khmerness and khmer origin, etc... god bless cambodia and all khmer people and citizens.
