Tuol Kork district authorities have given 18 families living in Boeung Kak lake’s Village 23 one week to dismantle their houses, accept compensation and relocate to Dangkor district.

Affected residents say their homes, which lie in the path of a planned access road to the controversial Boeung Kak lake development, will be bulldozed if they fail to meet the deadline.

Resident Ou Norleak, 38, said on Thursday that in a Wednesday meeting between deputy district governor Pich Keo Mony and the families, authorities said they will take drastic measures against those who resist.

“We can’t accept this because we have lived here for years,” Ou Norleak said. “Please Samdech Hun Sen, help your children. We will not be able to build a new house with this compensation.”

Huy Sokhon, another resident from Village 23, described the authorities’ actions as “dictatorship”.

In October, district governor Seng Ratanak told the families to remove their homes and accept a land plot in Dangkor district and 1 million riels (US$250), to make way for the widening of the access road R8 by developer Shukaku Inc.

Ek Yoeun, an official at the Tuol Kork district office, said Thursday that he did not join the meeting, but claimed the authorities had increased the compensation payout to 5 million riels ($1,250), up from the previous offer of 1 million.

“I heard some people asked for $50,000. The government’s policy is only to give a land plot in Kork Ksach village [in Dangkor district] and a small amount of money,” he said.

Respont to your comment...I do agreed with you, nation in the world should have two parteis one opposing the other for the benfites of the nation, And you also said I am pro CPP or... ok you are right. I wish to reafirm and make it clear about my conccept, I derict my idea on leadership only. I used to be SRP member and work very close to sam rainsy, now here is the pionts you know and clearly understand that we wast alote of our time, energy and money to support him, I Spend 300 $ in every communt ellection and much mores, Sam rainsy, he is a good talker, he enjioy working alone he not work well with other, he got weak team work, in 1998 to 2008 he got great chance to wine, he did not see that advatage. If you search a bit you will clearly see, Rainsy he lack leadership skile, he not set clear deriction, and his mentality are not tough to push his team and himeself past the breaking piont to victory. Now looke to the future, most peoples in cambodia they are not going to believe or thruth him any more would you happy with leadershipe like Sam rainsy, he is not stricness, less moral, very bossing, careless for his supporter, In fact he try to make himself become priminister of cambodia that he only care about, not khmer. He lead demostration, and stope foreign donation, he try to kill Hun sen 4 times, I allway call hime street wild act, becouse

sounds to me like sam rainsy needs to learn social skill like sociology, psychology, etc, for he seemed so narcissistic personality! that's bad for a leader like that, so backward and control freak, and he called mr. hun sen "dictator"! who's the dictator here, really! sam rainsy is hypocrite! i doubt that he ever elected to be the next prime minister of cambodia. i don't think cambodian people want him to be the next prime minister, you know! he can't even get along with others in his party, imagine he can't get along with the people of cambodia. cambodia don't need leader like that, ok! so, narcissistic! so egotistical, etc...! we want someone who is reformed, listen and consult khmer people and experts on the matter of the state before making personal decision that can affect the country, etc! we want an open-minded leader, a young, well educated leader both about cambodia and the world as well, someone who is smart, clever, intelligent and speak good khmer and love khmer and cambodia. no more lame excuses, ok! and someone who chooses to live, work and call cambodia home, not living overseas, ok! otherwise, don't even dream of governing cambodia from abroad, ok! sam rainsy is weak and ineffective, really! he might be good for something else, but not prime minister! why don't he be an economic adviser to the the gov't of cambodia, instead of opposing everything cambodia want to do, etc! go figure!

don't be crazy, the even the US president gets paid differently from the average workers, you know. so city major, prime minister, etc, get paid more; yes, it pays to get good education, and win the election, etc, you know! if you have no education and homeless, don't expect to get paid the same as the US president, etc, you know! same concept in cambodia, ok! wake up people! get good education by study hard and concentrate on studying in college, etc, ok! don't do drug, don't drink and drive, don't smoke and don't waste time, ok! that's all!
