Forty-two families in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district yesterday appealed to Prime Minister Hun Sen to intervene in the enforcement of a Supreme Court verdict today that will award land in Tuol Sangke commune’s Tuol Kork village to a former Funcinpec minister.

Villagers said yesterday that they bought the land from former Preah Vihear provincial governor Meas Savoeun five or six years ago after Meas Savoeun won the land from former Funcinpec minister Khun Haing, now a member of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, and his counterpart Chao Va in a court case.

Villager Van Socheat said that his purchase of the land was recognised by commune authorities.

“I bought that land from Meas Savoeun that recognised by commune authority,” said Van Socheat.

Villagers claimed that that Khun Haing had faked documents to obtain the land.

A letter, signed by Russei Keo district governor Klaing Huot and obtained by The Post yesterday, stated that district authorities would cooperate with municipal court prosecutors to enforce the verdict today, but listed Tuol Sangke village instead of Tuol Kork village.

According to a verdict from 2004, Phnom Penh municipal court judge Un Bunna awarded 6,000 square metres of land in Tuol Kork village to Meas Savoeun’s wife Tang Chhun Eng.

Tuol Kork village chief Pol Dy said that Meas Savoeun took Khun Haing’s land.

“I don’t know the skill of court that decided this case for Meas Savoeun to win,” said Pol Dy.

Neither Klaing Huot nor Khun Haing could be reached for comment yesterday.

the reason Dr. Hun Sen 's regime eliminate most khmer houses out of the city is Dr. Hun Sen fear that these khmer people may rise up against him so he must remove all these khmer people and replace by vietcoge people so he gets more security around his area. Less khmer in the city more vietcoge is Dr. Hun Sen idea of improving his security in Cambodia.

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

By Ms. Rattana Keo

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 10,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 10,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 10,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?

The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 10,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?

Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?

Smart Khmer girl Ms. Rattana Keo,

The principal reason why smaller states like Singapore are able to remain independent of foreign domination and protect their territorial sovereignty from foreign encroachments has more to do with their leaders' clearheadedness, as well as their collective determination in terms of subjugating their personal ambitions and interests to those of their states and populations.

That this nationalist drive and objective having been secured (i.e. complete political independence from larger neighbouring states)has been these states' most crucial achievement, since self-autonomy or genuine political self-determination provided them with the most secure and worthwhile platform on which the next major plank in national(ist) agenda is then achieved: socio-economic growth.

With socio-economic growth accompanied by expansion in public services in all spheres, including public education, the cultural bearings of the general population have accordingly been transformed for the better. The people of Singapore may not live in perfect democracy, but on the whole, they accept their status as citizens of an independent nation; that their individual and collective labour contribute towards ever growing national prosperity and well-being.

Singapore declared independence from Britain in 1963, forming part of the independent Malaysian state, but broke away from Malaysia two years later to form an independent enclave it has since remained.

Malaysia reluctantly acceded to Singapore's partition demand, largely out of practical necessity, as Singapore had already prepared to enforce that demand with a well organised band of armed insurgents in the region.

It is largely a misplaced perception to attribute Singapore's relative success story to either her strategic geography or her well-educated population. No doubt, these factors play their part, but successive Cambodian elites (except these men to the right on KI Media's Home Page!)have also been drawn from 'distinguished' social classes of Cambodian society. Even within the CPP today, there are well educated men and women with roots in the Sihanouk or Lon Nol regimes, whilst younger recruits are former KPNLF or FUNCINPEC affiliates, being bribed with honorary titles and privileges to do one thing, and one thing only: nothing or shut up; something, it must be added, they have been doing exceptionally well. After all, why should any of them care about Heng Samrin's native village being swallowed into the 'sister province' of Vietnam, or some poor grinding rice farmers in Svay Rieng?

The poor being robbed and abused by the powerful and the rich is nothing novel in history, but the trend appears far more resilient and stubborn in Cambodia than elsewhere, and thus her ranking as one of the most corrupt countries (or is it now the most corrupt?)is well deserved.

Even in refugee camps in the 1980s, privileged officials and personalities took care to build their bamboo villas and spacious, fenced properties for wives and mistresses out of international emergency aid money!

In fact, if Cambodians stop fighting to defend what little they have got, and officials stop abusing the little people, and instead start anew by working to secure and defend their nation's political integrity and territorial sovereignty, they could all become materially better off within just a generation or two.

The precedent set by affluent countries as well as by Cambodia's own largely selfish, anachronistic elite should act as stimuli for national debate and soul-searching, particularly, among the youth who must now act quickly to savage what still remains under the stale, nationally self-destructive misguidance of the current regime.

Sort out the politics and the rest will follow!
