Dear KUC, KVD's members and friends,

After the agreement on the comprehensive settlement of the Cambodian conflict and the national elections of the people’s representatives to the National State Assembly which supported by the United Nations Transitional Authority (UNTAC) inCambodia, the Cambodia Constitution has been promulgated and adopted a policy of liberal democracy and pluralism.

This year Khmer Unity for Cambodia has a great honor to organize a 19th anniversary of Cambodia Constitution Promulgation. Please see attached flyer for more information. The celebration will be held on Sept 22nd 2012 from 6:00PM to 12:00AM at Asia Pacific Cultural Center at 4851 So. Tacoma Way 98409.

Contrary to the image of development and prosperity that the Phnom Penh regime has been trying to display to the whole world, Cambodia is now in a very critical situation in its history, a situation of no return where the Khmer national identity is on the downfall. Khmer population is deliberately kept in a man-made poverty and under-education situation. Many of them cannot have any other perspectives than being trapped by the slavery in process in favour of the new masters of Cambodia.

A lot of things have been written, especially regarding the external factors which have been leading Cambodia to this downfall. But almost nothing has been done to better understand the endogenous factors.

Sometimes some of Khmer elders have said that they have been involved in politics for more than 30 years, and now it is time for the young people to take the lead. But what did we do exactly to groom the young generation to take care of the destiny of the country? Many of the young Khmer people can hardly understand the current situation of Cambodia.

There is a gap not only between the generations but also within a given generation. Many working groups have been emerged during these last years but could hardly work together.

Now it is more than necessary to take a moment to understand why in spite of our growing awareness about the very mortal danger threatening the existence of the country we cannot find ways to effectively and sustainably work together to preserve the survival of the Khmer people and nation.

I wish to invite our elders and also young Khmer people to express their opinion through a working paper. This call aims at finding out ways to strengthen our community to work hand in hand along with elders and young people for a commune cause.

Contrairement a l'image de developpement et de properite que tente de renvoyer le regime de Phnom Penh, le Cambodge se retrouve dans une phase tres critique de son histoire, une phase de non retour ou l'identite nationale khmere est en declin progressif. Le peuple khmer se retrouve maintenu deliberement dans une situation de pauvrete et de sous-education. Beaucoup d'entre eux ne voient aucune autre issue que d'etre pris dans un processus d'esclavage au profit des nouveaux maitres du Cambodge.

Beaucoup ont ete ecrit, notamment sur tout les facteurs externes qui ont conduit le Cambodge a cette phase de declin. Mais tres peu de travaux de reflexion ont ete menes pour comprendre les facteurs endogenes de cette situation.

Beaucoup disent parfois qu'ils ont fait de la politique plus de 30 ans et maintenant c'est au tour des jeunes de prendre la releve. Mais qu'avons-nous fait concretement pour permettre aux jeunes de prendre la releve ? Certains d entre eux ont du mal a comprendre la situation actuelle au Cambodge. Il y a non seulement un fosse entre les generations mais aussi au sein d une generation meme. Beaucoup de petits groupe de travail et/ou de reflexion peinent a cooperer ensemble.

Il est donc plus que jamais necessaire de mener un travail de reflexion pour tenter de comprendre pourquoi malgre la prise de conscience progressive du danger qui menace l'existence meme du pays on a du mal a œuvrer ensemble pour preserver la survie du peuple et de la nation khmers.

J'invite nos aines, les jeunes de ma generation ainsi que les moins jeunes a exprimer leur opinion par ecrit de maniere constructive et ce dans un but de trouver des moyens de consolidation susceptibles de nous unir aines et jeunes et de nous permettre d avancer ensemble pour une cause qui est nous commune.

Dear all respectable Brothers and Sisters,

I am just a simple patriot who lacks necessary knowledge, so please excuse me.

I am so glad about the word “Three –lotus”. We should strengthen our solidarity and love to one another in order to find out solution for our nation. We need to give reasons and opinion exchange etc.

We are all Khmer, Khmerkrom who have originated from the same source (my own opinion) we should create an inter-assembly so that there will not be any criticizing, gossiping between one another. If it is successful, our nation will be united. This will bring unification. If we really intend to do that, I believe that we will be successful in the future and I also believe that we all want victory and success.

On the other hand, 10 millions Khmerkrom people are waiting for the right chance to come and help them out. They are like children waiting for their mother to come back from the market with the hope of a big smile on their mother’s face and the mother does the same thing and so Khmerkrom needs freedom and liberty.

I would like to beg you; respectable elderly, sisters, brothers and nationalists who have their spirit as a patriot, to look at the East. KhmerKrom people need support from us and Cambodian government. The Cambodian government can possibly provide us a brawn shield in order make this plan possible. Khmerkrom land is part of Kingdom of Cambodia which is under monarchical system of government and the King also has the same blood as we all have.

A recent meeting I had with a former American foreign service officer and a retiree from a nonprofit, non-governmental organization had as its purpose to discuss Cambodia and change. But our discussions touched on many other issues, ranging from my column on China's overreach to the globalization of technology, and how today's young Cambodians have become adept with and immersed in modern technological tools.

It was the young Cambodians' wholehearted embrace of technology that nudged me and my NGO friend -- both of us well past 50 -- to raise concerns over the gradual decline in direct personal relationships among humans, relationships we both believe are essential to productive interaction.

As we spoke, some quotations I found in a PowerPoint and used in my column in this space five years ago popped back in my head: "We reached the moon and came back, but we find it troublesome to cross our own street and meet our neighbors. We have conquered outer space, but not our inner space." And: "We talk much, we love only a little, and we hate too much."

Having learned how values and principles historically have been guides for human beings, I write from time to time about Lord Gautama Buddha's ancient teachings 2,500 years ago, which seem to have relevance in today's Cambodia, where 95 percent of her 14 million citizens are Buddhists, where democrats are fighting for rights and freedom.

After our meeting, I received a note from my American friend, along with Foreign Policy magazine's special report, "Technology Will Take on a Life of Its Own." He suggested that perhaps we have been already bypassed by the new age and young Cambodians will have to come up with a new system of ethics aligned with the new technology.

Who should be Cambodia's uniter? KI-Media or the King of Cambodia?

A respected anonymous reader posted the following message:

"KI Media. Be alert that your blog is now known as one of Hanoi's secret divider.

Too extreme you will be destroyed by Communist Yuon. Be a UNITER not a DIVIDER. Call upon all Khmers in all Factions to understand the calamities up on Cambodia by our same historic enemy "YUON" instead of bashing each others everyday.

Your bashing cursing didn't work, you need a new method."

The question is: Is KI-Media the appropriate entity to unite all Khmer or should it be the duty of the Khmer King? For those who have not read the Cambodian Constitution lately, we are posting below the article of the constitution which stipulates the duty of the Khmer King:

Article 8 - The King of Cambodia shall be a symbol of unity and eternity of the nation. The King shall be the guarantor of the national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the protector of rights and freedom for all citizens and the guarantor of international treaties.

As you have seen in the various videos and news posted here and elsewhere, several Khmers living along the Viet border have loudly complained the loss of their lands, rice fields etc.. to the Viet encroachments, so far, we have not heard a single peep from the king nor the royal palace on this issue. Could this royal absence and/or lack of royal leadership be the reason why the anonymous reader above called on KI-Media to be the uniter instead? Could it be that because KI-Media brings out to the open this lack of royal leadership that we are labeled again and again as DIVIDER?

Nevertheless, we would like you to know that our duty is only to inform you, the "informed" decision has to come from you, Dear Readers, as to what to do with Cambodia and her future. After all, Cambodia belongs to all of us, we are the master of our destiny, we have to make the collective decision on what our future should and will be. Please remember, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. (Edmund Burke)", and right now, in Cambodia and elsewhere in the world, there are indeed a lot of good men and women who do nothing. Perhaps, these good men and women do not even remember what their duty, as prescribed by the constitution, still is? We can't tell for sure.

Therefore, with all due respect to the anonymous reader above, all of us, Khmers - whether king, queen or commoners, rich or poor, powerful or not powerful - have the common duty of being the catalyst to Khmer unity, especially in the current absence of clear and definitive leadership.

KKF Denounces Use of Military Forces, Urges Unity Amongst All Khmers

On behalf of the Khmers Kampuchea-Krom Federation and Khmer Krom people around the world, we would like to acknowledge and announce our support towards the recognition of Cambodia’s Keo-Sikha-Kiri-Svarak (or also known as Wat Prasath Preah Vihear) as a World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

We would like to denounce the use of military forces by the Thai militants in an attempt to take over the pagoda which located in the Cambodian territory.

We urge the Cambodian and Thailand governments and all political parties to resolve this escalating crisis by remaining calm and to use the instruments of peaceful negotiations.

We strongly urge all people of Khmer descendent, inside of Cambodia, in Kampuchea-Krom and abroad to remain calm and united in defending the sovereignty of Cambodia. We believe that unity is a must for all Khmers and that the Preah Vihear is an issue that affects all Khmer, not one government or organization or for any political interest.

We ask for people to remember and maintain respectful to the friendship between Khmer and Thai peoples.

We ask that all Khmer people help support our Khmer people, soldiers and Buddhist monks living within the crisis zone by donating money and food as well as providing moral support.

We ask all Khmer citizens to write a letter of support to His Majesty King Father, King Sihamoni as well as all political parties in Cambodia to unite in this matter and propose a day of unity.

While the main issue is about Preah Vihear, we believe that it is a great opportunity for all Khmer people to show the world our unity, our love for our history and heritage and the willingness to defend what has been and will always remains part of Cambodia.
