Since the explosion of the border problem on 25 October 2009, the Cambodian government appears to be quite weakened and the general public, in particular, people who live along the border can now clearly see the ultimate national betrayal by the Hun Xen regime.The border issue is an important subject that the opposition party snatched to use at its strategy to attack the government both inside and outside the country. Next, the opposition plans to broach the issue of the freedom of press which is worsening right now.
Opposition leader Sam Rainsy and Mr. Sean Pengse, President of the France-based Cambodia’s Border Committee continue to show a lot of information on the border problems which are currently taking place along eastern Cambodia next to the Yuon border, in order to inform the international community and the Cambodian communities in the US during their visit there between 22 May and 15 June 2010. According to plan, the campaign is aimed at attracting support from the Cambodian communities in 7 US states and 11 cities.
Meanwhile, in Cambodia, following the visit of SRP MPs’ visit on 01 June to Cambodian farmers who are currently jailed in Svay Rieng for border issue, the SRP MPs plan to travel to visit the border problem that is currently taking place in Anh Chanh village where reports indicated on Sunday that villagers, who dare talk about their rice fields being lost to the Yuons’ hand through the planting of border post, are now threatened by the local authority which told them not to talk about this issue otherwise they will be jailed. Under such circumstances, the opposition can now thank the government for providing them with the opportunity to broach these events which are strategically important for their campaign stemming from the stupid connivance between Hanoi and its puppet regime in Phnom Penh.
SRP MP Yim Sovann said that, right now, eastern border problems are popping up like popcorn from one region to another.
Following their visit to Takeo, the SRP MPs plan to visit border posts no. 124 and 125 located in Ponhea Krek district, Kampong Cham province also.
In addition to all the activities above, the opposition has also planned to send Hang Chakra, the editor-in-chief of the Khmer Machas Srok newspaper who was recently released from jail, to the US next month with the aim of fustigating the government on the issue of press freedom.
Hang Chakra indicated in his interview with the Free Press Magazine that: “We will raise the issue of press freedom during our meetings with the Cambodian communities in the US. Press freedom [in Cambodia] is extremely bad.”
Hang Chakra also claimed that: “There was no professional mistake made that could lead the government to throw me in jail, it was the powerful government officials who violated the press law that they set up, it’s a coward case…”

HA NOI — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said that it had always been Viet Nam’s policy to develop friendship and multi-faceted co-operation with Cambodia at a meeting yesterday with Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin.
Viet Nam had always considered its traditional friendship with Cambodia as priceless for both nations, he said.
Trong said the two sides should educate people, especially the young, to continue preserving this traditional friendship and co-operation.
He said that Vietnamese people, being a close friend and neighbour of Cambodia, were happy to see the great achievements of Cambodian people in recent years.
"Viet Nam has always supported the Cambodian Government’s policies for the country’s development, the happiness of the Cambodian people, and peace and stability in the region," he said.
He said the two legislative bodies should take more practical measures to boost relations with each other.
Trong praised the two National Assemblies for ratifying an additional pact for the Border Demarcation Agreement between Viet Nam and Cambodia.
Trong also expressed thanks for the support that Cambodian people had given to Viet Nam in recent times. He thanked the Cambodian National Assembly and Government for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community living in Cambodia, and for helping Viet Nam to find the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia.
Cambodian NA Chairman Heng Samrin expressed his appreciation for strong co-operation between the two NAs, and said he believed that the two would continue to boost relations between the two countries.
Heng Samrin said he was happy to see co-operation between the two nations expanding in so many aspects.
He affirmed that the Cambodian National Assembly and people supported the development of co-operation with Viet Nam.
He said Cambodia was determined to complete border demarcation with Viet Nam by early 2012.
On behalf of the Cambodian National Assembly and the people of Cambodia, Heng Samrin expressed his gratitude for the great support that the Party, Government and people of Viet Nam gave to Cambodia, especially in helping the Cambodian people to escape the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
He gave special thanks to the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died for international duties in Cambodia, and their families.

Later yesterday, Heng Samrin was received by Viet Nam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
He briefed Dung about the results of his meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Phu Trong, saying it would boost bilateral ties.
Dung also spoke of the significance of Heng Samrin’s visit and congratulated Cambodians on achievements in socio-economic development, especially evident in the higher living standard of Cambodian people, the strengthened partnership that Cambodia had built with neighbouring countries and Cambodia’s stronger stance in the international arena. Dung said the legislative co-operation between the two National Assemblies had created a firm foundation for potential bonds in many areas. He said this would benefit both countries.
The PM took the opportunity to send his best wishes to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and other Cambodian leaders.

VietNamNet Bridge - A Cambodian delegation led by National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin and his wife visited to the northern province of Ninh Binh on January 18.
At a meeting with the provincial officials, the Cambodia NA Chariman praised the renewal process of Vietnam in general and Ninh Binh province in particular.
On the occasion of Vietnam ’s Tet (Lunar New Year festival), he wished the local people good health and prosperity and expressed his hope that the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened further.
Heng Samrin aslo expressed his deep thanks to the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, including those from Ninh Binh, who had helped his country escape the Pol Pot genocidal regime. He sent his condolences to the families of those who had sacrificed their lives in Cambodia.
Provincial Party Committee Secretary Dinh Van Hung, who is also head of the province’s National Assembly delegation, briefed the guests of the economic, political and social situation in Ninh Binh, stressing the province’s tourism potential and international cooperation opportunities.
Later on the same day, the Cambodian delegation visited newly-built Bai Dinh, the largest pagoda in Southeast Asia .

The Cambodian People’s Party will commemorate the 30thanniversary of the fall of the Khmer Rouge at a ceremony at Olympic Stadium Thursday, under criticism from Human Rights Watch and Cambodian political parties that justice remains elusive for Khmer Rouge leaders and a culture of impunity remains.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said more than 10,000 people are expected to participate in the ceremony, which commemorates the day when forces of Vietnamese-backed groups ousted the Khmer Rouge from Phnom Penh.
Starting Wednesday morning, senior officials, guests and observers will gather at Olympic Stadium for speeches by key leaders and a procession inside the stadium of CPP officials and other supporters from Phnom Penh and the provinces.
The day is a “second birthday” for Cambodians, “so the people never forget, and they remember who liberated them from the Khmer Rouge,” he said.
The Khmer Rouge held power in Phnom Penh from April 17, 1975, until Jan. 7, 1979, during which time nearly 2 million people died under the regime.
The Jan. 7 celebration is always greeted with mixed feelings in Cambodia, however, because it also marked the beginning of a decade-long occupation by the Vietnamese, who left in 1989.
Human Rights Watch said in a statement Wednesday that 30 years after the Khmer Rouge fell, “Cambodia’s culture of impunity remains as strong as ever.”
The group’s Asia director, Brad Adams, said in a statement that more leaders of the regime should be brought to justice, following a statement by the Khmer Rouge tribunal’s Cambodian prosecutors that no more leaders should be charged.
Tribunal co-prosecutor Chea Leang wrote in a statement no further indictments should be pursued because of “Cambodia’s past instability and the continued need for national reconciliation,” among other reasons.
“No serious observer believes there is any threat to Cambodia’s stability if additional cases are filed against alleged Khmer Rouge killers,” Adams said.

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia's annual football tournament under the name of Prime Minister Hun Sen is scheduled to kick off on Jan. 7, 2009, the third edition of the nationwide event, national media said on Tuesday.
Altogether 34 teams will join the tournament, Ouk Sethycheat, secretary general of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), was quoted by English-Khmer language newspaper the Cambodia Daily as saying.
The 34 teams will compete in a qualifying stage, from which 16 teams will come out for the final stage in Phnon Penh from Jan. 24 to Mar. 28.
The champions will win 15,000 U.S. dollars and the two runners-up will get 10,000 dollars and 5,000 dollars respectively.

Vietnam, Cambodia looking to the future

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and his Cambodian guest Samdech Chea Sim, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the Senate President, held talks in Hanoi on November 25 to discuss measures to strengthen and develop the comprehensive co-operation between the two Parties and States.
The Cambodian leader is making an official visit to Vietnam from November 25-27.
During the talks, Party leader Manh appreciated the visit by his Cambodian counterpart, calling it a political event of great significance, contributing to strengthening and developing the traditional friendship and neighbourly co-operation that exists between the two countries.
He congratulated the Cambodian people on their outstanding achievements in a number of fields during recent years, particularly the successful organisation of the fourth national assembly elections.
He wished the Cambodian people further successes in building Cambodia into a peaceful, independent, democratic, progressive and prosperous nation, contributing to the peace, stability, co-operation and development of the Southeast Asian region and the world.
The Party leader expressed his deep gratitude for the sentiments, support and assistance the Cambodian Party and people have granted to Vietnam.
He referred to the close amity between the two Parties and States as an invaluable quality, built on a firm foundation and fostered throughout a series of challenges during their long-term struggle for national liberation and construction.
Party General Secretary Manh stressed the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy to respect and do their utmost to maintain and enhance the traditional friendship and long-term comprehensive co-operation between Vietnam and Cambodia, adding that it serves as an orientation for relations between the two Parties and States, not just for current times, but also for future generations.
CPP President Chea Sim expressed his admiration at and congratulations on the important achievements the Vietnamese people have recorded during their process of national renewal.
He hoped his neighbours would go on to record further achievements in the cause of industrialisation and modernisation to help transform Vietnam into a country of prosperity, with a democratic and civilised society, contributing to peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.
He also expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support and assistance to the Cambodian people in the latter’s struggle for national liberation, helping them to put an end to the genocide and re-construct their country.
Samdech Chea Sim said that developing the relationship with Vietnam is one of the top priorities for his country’s foreign policy and pledged to contribute to developing the traditional rapport between the two peoples.

They then expressed their wishes that the two countries would further co-ordinate in the implementation of the signed agreements in order to give impetus to their bilateral relations.
